Announcement regarding the UK EU Referendum and our company

Καταχώρηση 2016/06/26

On Thursday 23rd June 2016 the people of the UK voted on whether or not to stay within the European Union. The results were announced on the morning of Friday 24th June 2016, the people of the UK had voted in favour of leaving the EU.

What does UK leaving the EU mean for us, and candidates?

First and foremost we envisage business as usual for at least two years. This is the first time an EU country has ever decided to leave the European Union and because of this there is a lot of grey area and no previous case studies to learn from. It is likely that the UK will invoke Article 50 of the Treaty of Lisbon, once that has happened the UK will have up to two years to negotiate terms of exit, this period may possibly be extended depending on negotiations. During this period the UK will continue to abide by the EU laws, regulations and treaties.

What happens with UK recruitment of EU health care staff in the long term is purely speculative. However it will more than likely be one of two options. One option is that the free movement rights currently enjoyed by all EU citizens are extended to a non EU UK. Allowing people from the EU to live and work in the UK and vice versa. The other option is that the UK may adopt a points based system similar to that of Australia, where a person is allowed to live and work within the UK based on their qualifications, experience and job role. The UK has a significant shortage of care workers and if such a point system was used care workers would likely score high on the points list.

'Skills for Care' estimated in a 2014 study that there are more than 1.52 million people employed in the UK care sector, out of which 18% are economic migrants from within or outside the EU. The UK needs care staff and we feel confident that there will be a place in the UK for our candidates both in the short and long term.
